Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a way of detecting, treating and preventing health problems by moving, stretching and manipulating a person's muscles and joints. Whether it is generalised aches and pains, arthritic pain, joint pains, muscle spasms or even digestion problems, there are a wide variety of conditions that Osteopaths can treat.

About Osteopathy

What is it?

This treatment helps to increase joint mobility, relieve muscle tension, enhance the blood supply to tissues and help the body to heal. Utilising physical, Osteopathic manipulation of the body, we are able to detect, diagnose and treat a number of health problems. In the UK, this manual therapy is a health profession regulated by UK law. The minimum qualification required to become an Osteopath is a four or five year degree. This includes at least 1000 hours of clinical practice and experience! Additionally, clinics have to be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

It is great for:

People seek Osteopathic treatment to help with health problems and conditions affecting the muscles, bones and joints.  Whether it is generalised aches and pains, arthritic pain, joint pains, muscle spasms or even digestion problems, there are a wide variety of conditions that Osteopaths can treat. Additionally, based on scientific evidence we can also treat sciatica, neuralgia, fibromyalgia, and rheumatic pain.

Will it help me?

For many people, aches and pains seem to be a common part of growing older - but it doesn’t have to be. 4 out of 5 people in the UK experience back pain within their lifetime, and we can help you get back to health, faster. Over 50% of Osteopathic patients reported improvements in their symptoms after a week!  We can treat any age group - that includes infants and children, all the way through to mature adults. Even if you are unsure on what is wrong, we can diagnose, explain, treat (using a range of evidence based treatments) and advise patients all on the first visit.

What happens in a treatment?

You do not need to consult your GP before making/attending your appointment.

Your Osteopath will discuss your treatment with you beforehand. Your appointment may involve a series of techniques, including physical manipulation, stretching and massage with the aim of: increasing the mobility of joints, relieving muscle tension, enhancing the blood supply to tissue and helping the body to heal.

All patients can benefit from the tailored and personalised approach that Osteopaths offer, taking the time to understand individual history and circumstances, and applying the correct treatment to help resolve the issue.

TESTIMONIAL

"I had an appointment today with Lorna to treat some issues in my back following pregnancy and breastfeeding. She was very knowledgeable and thorough, and talked me through everything she needed to do to help. My back felt better by the time I had left the appointment - highly recommended!"
